Beloved Community Sunday Liturgy
The Beloved Community first gathered for a memorial mass for our friend and teacher, Sr. Caroline Cerveny, SSJ-TOSF, who was an expert in social media and in the use of digital resources for ministry. She inspired us to embrace this digital age in which we find ourselves participating more than we ever imagined.
Established in April, 2020 just as the COVID-19 Pandemic encircled the earth and churches were closed for worship, the Beloved Community gathered via Zoom from many parishes and states to pray together. Since that first mass we have continued to gather weekly on Sunday mornings at 11:00 AM EST for liturgy. The Zoom Room opens at 10:30 AM for the assembly to gather and catch-up a bit before prayer begins.
We welcome new members and share information of interest. Volunteer Lectors proclaim the scriptures from their individual locations. The Presider offers a reflective homily steeped in Ignatian Spirituality and invites members of the Beloved Community to share personal insights on the Scriptures.
The sharing of God’s Word in this manner is filled with inspiration, insight, love and hope. Following the Prayer of the Faithful and the Eucharistic Prayer, members are again invited to share reflections and prayers of gratitude before the Final Blessing.
Sometimes there is music or sharing of resources for personal prayer. Because the Beloved Community encompasses participants from numerous geographic areas, this is a way to share current concerns, prayer support and information helpful for living as committed followers of Christ in our ever-changing world. All are welcome and members soon become close friends in faith and in appreciation.
