HAVE YOU THOUGHT OF BECOMING A SPIRITUAL DIRECTOR?

“Call to me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things,
which you do not know” Jeremiah 33:3

If you have already made the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius and are curious about your next steps in the Lord, have you considered training as a Spiritual Director?

Those of us who have had the good fortune of having a Spiritual Director have known the enormous advantages of having someone accompany us in our walk with Christ. Is this a time in your life when God is calling you to BE THAT PERSON for others? We invite you to consider doing an Internship in spiritial direction in the Ignatian tradition with the Arrupe Spirituality Digital Community.

This internship consists of an intensive six months of training that includes:

  • Weekly or bi-weekly online teaching for 90 minutes
  • A curriculum that was developed by Fr. Bill Creed, SJ and taught annually at Loyola University
  • Weekly assignments done in advance of the online meetings
  • Essential to your training, you will direct 1 or 2 individuals through the Spiritual Exercises
  • You will receive weekly support from ‘Peer Companions’ – those who have previously taken this Internship and now wish to support your training experience.
  • Learning in community with other Spiritual Directors in training.

The Internship in spiritual direction in the Ignatian tradition meets for 21 seminars for 90 minutes online weekly in the Fall and every other week in Winter and Spring. Each of the 90-minute seminars is in three parts: 30 minutes discussing the fruits of studying the content of the Spiritual Exercises and related topics based on the homework and responses of the interns, 30 minutes on understanding and practicing listening, discernment skills and supervision, and 30 minutes in personal faith sharing on the various topics addressed in the Exercises.

Each intern participates as a peer in the discussion, in honing one’s listening/discernment skills, and in personal faith sharing.  Each intern, in addition to the weekly written homework assignments, writes five two-page personal reflections on five of the primary graces of the Exercises.  Each intern gives the Spiritual Exercises to two persons, meeting weekly for 30-60 minutes with each retreatant.

To complete, simply open the Application and type your responses on the form.  It will expand as necessary.  Contact John Gohman (john.gohman2@arrupespirituality.org) if you have questions.
